Nonii, tervitused siis juba Prantsusmaalt!

Kuna pidime tänasesse ööbimiskohta jõudma enne kella 18, siis startisime isegi varem, kui eelmistel päevadel, igaks juhuks, kunagi ei tea, kus on teetööd ja kus ummikud ja kus aega võib pikemalt minna.

Heidelbergis, mis oli tõesti nii üliarmas linnake, ööbisime Meiningeri hotellis. Vaatasin, et kuidagi tuttav kontseptsioon oli, selgus, et olime oma Lady`s gang`ìga (kes teab, see teab 🙂 ) meie Berliini reisi ajal samuti Meinigeri hotellis kaks ööd veetnud. Väga mõnus, julgen soovitada seda hotelliketti.

Well, greetings already from France!

Since we had to arrive at today’s accommodation before 6 PM, we started even earlier than on previous days, just in case. You never know where there might be roadworks or traffic jams, and where it might take longer to get through.

In Heidelberg, which was such an utterly charming little town, we stayed at the Meininger Hotel. I noticed that the concept seemed familiar, and it turned out that during our Berlin trip with our Lady’s gang (those who know, know 🙂 ), we had also spent two nights at a Meininger hotel. Very nice, I can recommend this hotel chain.

Tänaseks lõunapausiks oli Teet meile välja valinud Peugeot`i muuseumi Sochaux linnakeses. Kuna on jätkuvalt suvi ja soojakraade piisavalt, siis sellistes muuseumides on hea aega veeta ning natukenegi jahutavat kosutust saada. Ütleks, et väga huvitav oli, ega ma ikka väga kursis küll polnud, millega Peugeot alustas ja mis nende tooteportfelli peale autode mahtus. Alustasid nad hoopiski saagide tootmisega, siis erinevad kodumasinad, kohviveskid, õmblusmasinad, pesumasinad jmt, jalgrattad, võrrid jne jne. Tõesti, väga põnev oli. Saime siis oma prantsuse keelt ka juba natuke harjutada, tellisime muuseumi restoranis lõunasöögi ja hiljem bensiinijaamas tellisin üht kui teist, ostsin isegi ka ühe prantsuskeelse raamatu praktika mõttes 🙂

For today’s lunch break, Teet had chosen the Peugeot museum in the little town of Sochaux for us. Since it is still summer and warm enough, it’s nice to spend time in such museums and get a bit of cooling refreshment. I must say it was very interesting, as I wasn’t really familiar with what Peugeot started with and what their product portfolio included besides cars. They actually started with producing saws, then various household appliances, coffee grinders, sewing machines, washing machines, and so on, bicycles, mopeds, etc., etc. Really, it was very fascinating. We even got to practice our French a little; we ordered lunch in the museum’s restaurant, and later at the gas station, I ordered a few things. I even bought a French book for practice purposes 🙂

Prantsusmaa kiirteed olid muidugi täiesti midagi muud, kui Poolas ja Saksamaal, suhteliselt rahuliku ja hõreda liiklusega, sai täiesti pikalt ühes reas sõita, ei pidanud edasi-tagasi ümberreastumisi tegema. Ja mina sain tagareas rahulikumalt ümbrust jälgida, uskumatult imeilusad vaated. Kahju, et Teet neid nautida ei saa, vahepeal ma ikka ütlen, et vaata korraks paremale või vasakule, aga miskit ei ole parata, tema pilk peab ikka teel püsima.

Kui kiirteelt maha pöörasime ja oma majutuskoha poole sõitsime, siis teed muutusid aina kitsamaks ja kitsamaks, hoidsin hinge kinni, et päris kruusateed ei tuleks, aga siin vist selliseid asju enam ei eksisteerigi 🙂 Teet küll valdab ka kruusateel sõitu, aga mina ei tunne seal taga ennast väga hästi.

Teed läksid läbi pisikeste romantiliste külakeste, karjamaad, vilja- ja päevalillepõllud ümberringi… vahepeal tekkis tunne, kas oleme ikka õigel teel, aga voila, siin me oleme, in middle of nowhwre. Broneerides ma ei saanudki tegelikult päris aru, mis koht see selline on, siinkandis lihtsat ei pakutud miskit muud, aga läks hästi, kõik on väga super-puper jällegi.

See ongi selline kämpingu koht, soovi korral saad karavaniga tulla, võid autoga tulla ja saad telgikoha… või…võid motikaga tulla ja saad lausa terve telgi 🙂

The highways in France were of course completely different from those in Poland and Germany, with relatively calm and sparse traffic, allowing for long stretches of driving in a single lane without the need to constantly change lanes. And I could more calmly observe the surroundings from the back seat—unbelievably beautiful views. It’s a pity that Teet can’t enjoy them; sometimes I do tell him to look to the right or left for a moment, but there’s nothing to be done, his eyes have to stay on the road.

When we turned off the highway and drove towards our accommodation, the roads became narrower and narrower. I held my breath, hoping we wouldn’t end up on a gravel road, but I guess those don’t exist here anymore 🙂 Teet can handle driving on gravel roads, but I don’t feel very comfortable in the back seat there.

The roads went through tiny romantic villages, pastures, and fields of crops and sunflowers all around… at times it felt like we might be lost, but voila, here we are, in the middle of nowhere. When booking, I didn’t really understand what kind of place this was, as there was nothing else available in this area, but it turned out well; everything is super-duper once again.

This is a sort of camping site where you can come with a caravan if you wish, or you can come by car and get a tent spot… or… you can come by motorcycle and get a whole tent to yourself 🙂

Meil viimane kämpingu/telkimiskogemus on Shotimaa reisist aastal 2011, ikka väga ammu aega tagasi, nii et päris nostalgiline jälle sellist elu üks päevakene veeta. Tegelikult väga lahe kogemus, siin näeb sellist päris elu ka, tundub, et enamus suvitajatest on siin prantslased, lastega peresid palju, vanapaare palju. Tõsiselt väga ilus koht, väike järveke, samuti bassein olemas, restoran siinsamas laia söögi- ja joogivalikuga, pesemisvõimalused, pesumasinad, kõik eluks vajalik olemas, väga-väga mõnus on siin olla.

Teet arvas õhtul, et natukene võiks aktiivsemat tegevust ka olla, vaatas, et mingi 2,5 km kaugusel meist peaks olema üks vana akvedukt. Oligi, aga lõpuks ikkagi tuvastasime, et tegemist on hoopiski vana viaduktiga 🙂 Aga vahet pole, väga romantiline jalutuskäik läbi vanade külakeste ja suurte viinamarjaistanduste.

Our last camping/tenting experience was during our Scotland trip in 2011, a very long time ago, so it’s quite nostalgic to spend a day living like this again. Actually, it’s a very cool experience. You get to see real life here; it seems most of the vacationers are French, with many families with children and elderly couples. It’s truly a very beautiful place, with a small lake, a pool, a nearby restaurant with a wide selection of food and drinks, washing facilities, washing machines—everything necessary for life is here. It’s very, very nice to be here.

In the evening, Teet thought we could do something a bit more active and saw that about 2.5 km away from us there should be an old aqueduct. There was indeed something, but in the end, we discovered that it was actually an old viaduct 🙂 But it doesn’t matter; it was a very romantic walk through old villages and large vineyards.

Homme alustame päris puhkusega, magame hommikul kaua, käime ujumas, naudime kohvi ja croissante. Meie nö lõppsihtkohani on siit ainult ~200 km, nii et kiiret ei ole 🙂

Tomorrow we start our real vacation. We’ll sleep in, go swimming, and enjoy coffee and croissants. Our so-called final destination is only about 200 km from here, so there’s no rush 🙂

Tänase päeva veetsime Saksamaal. Hommik algas mõnusa hommikusöögiga meie väikeses hotellikeses. Selliste sõidupäevade juures on kurb see, et igas peatuspaigas ei ole lihtsalt aega pikemalt ringi vaadata. Seega jäid Dresdeni vaatamisväärsused meie jaoks järgmist korda ootama. Suur tänu Marile, kes oma kodulinna kohta häid soovitusi jagas. Need kuluvad ära järgmisel korral.

We spent today in Germany. The morning started with a nice breakfast at our little hotel. The sad part about these travel days is that there simply isn’t time to look around each stop for long. Therefore, Dresden’s sights are left for us to explore next time. Many thanks to Mari, who shared good recommendations about her hometown. These will come in handy next time.

Erinevalt eilsest päevas oli tänane päeva algus pilves ja jahedam. See oli väga mõnus. Tänane lõunapeatus oli hoopis teist moodi. Käisime külas Inge vennatütrel Angelal. Selleks põikasime sisse Nürnbergi. Nautisime mõnusat vestlust ja kodus lõunasööki ning asusime teele tänase sihtpunkti Heidelbergi poole.

Unlike yesterday, today’s start was cloudy and cooler. It was very pleasant. Today’s lunch stop was quite different. We visited Inge’s niece Angela. For that, we made a detour to Nuremberg. We enjoyed a nice conversation and a homemade lunch before heading towards today’s destination, Heidelberg.

Heideberg on väga vana ülikoolilinn. Sealne ülikool on Saksamaa vanim ja ka üks vanimatest tegutsevatest ülikoolidest kogu Euroopas. See ülikool asutati aastal 1386. Tegime pika jalutuskäigu vanalinnas. See on imeilus. Kuna tegemist on ülikoolilinnaga oli näha väga palju noori inimesi. Väga palju liiguti ka ringi jalgratastega. Loodan, et meie pildid annavad veidikenegi neid muljeid edasi.

Heidelberg is a very old university town. Its university is the oldest in Germany and one of the oldest continuously operating universities in Europe. This university was founded in 1386. We took a long walk in the old town. It is beautiful. Since it is a university town, we saw a lot of young people. Many people were also getting around by bicycle. I hope our pictures convey at least some of these impressions.

Ma ei hakka kirjutama, kui vara tõuseme ja mida siis teeme jne 🙂 Praeguste ilmadega on meie sõidupäevadel mõistlik iga päev varakult üles saada, et hommikust jahedust ja hõredamat liiklust ära kasutada. Täna oli vist küll kuumarekord, tablool tee ääres näitas õhk 34 C ja teekate 43 C , pole paha 🙂 Tegime tihedamalt joogipeatusi, et päris ära ei dehüdreeruks, aga üldiselt kõik ok. Liiklus kiirteedel viisakas, aga väga tihe, eriti Poola teedel, sealsed kiirteed olid kaherealised ning parempoolne oli rekkasid täis, st et pidime enamuse ajast ikkagi vasakpoolses reas sõitma, kus sõidukiirus 120-130 km/h.

Tundub, et ma olen vahepealsete aastatega suure arenguhüppe teinud 🙂 Kui me olime oma esimesel reisil Prantsusmaale, siis sõitsime samuti läbi Saksamaa kiirteede. Siis ma arvasin küll, et ma suren sinna. Ma suurema osa ajast istusin silmad kinni, hoidsin kramplikult Teedust kinni, lülitasin mikri välja, et Teet minu kiljumist ei kuuleks.. Praegu suudan täiesti vakka olla, silmad ka lahti, suudan isegi ümbritsevat elu-olu tähele panna ja ilusaid loodusvaateid nautida 🙂 , nii et areng missugune 🙂
Ja ma ei väsi imestamast ja imetlemast Teedu külma närvi ja kindlat meelt!!

Today we greet you from Germany, Dresden! Our third day of travel! I won’t write about how early we wake up and what we do then, etc. 🙂 With the current weather, it makes sense to get up early every day to take advantage of the morning coolness and lighter traffic during our travel days. Today was probably a heat record; the roadside sign showed the air temperature as 34°C and the road surface as 43°C, not bad 🙂 We made more frequent drink stops to avoid dehydration, but overall everything is okay. The traffic on the highways is polite but very dense, especially on the Polish roads, where the highways were two lanes, and the right lane was full of trucks, meaning we had to drive mostly in the left lane, where the speed was 120-130 km/h.

It seems that I have made great progress over the years 🙂 When we were on our first trip to France, we also drove through the German highways. Back then, I thought I would die there. Most of the time, I sat with my eyes closed, clinging tightly to Teedu, turned off the microphone so that Teet wouldn’t hear my screaming. Now, I can be completely silent, keep my eyes open, even notice the surrounding life and enjoy the beautiful landscapes 🙂 , so what a development! And I never cease to be amazed and admire Teedu’s cool nerves and determination!!

Pisut ööbimiskohtadest: meie tööjaotus Teeduga reisi ettevalmmistamisl oli selline, et tema valis sihtkoha, päevased marsruudid ning lõunapauside peatuskohad/vaatamisväärsused. Mina broneerisin majutused. Ütleks nii, et väga palju ma seekord ei süvenenud. Oleme jätkuvalt suht vähenõudlikud, lisaks voodikohale peab olema pesemisvõimalus ja võimalusel ka hommikusöök või siis lähedalasuv pood või söögikoht. Siiani on kõik kenasti klappinud, kõik kolm ööbimist väga ok, eilses majutuses oli isegi konditsioneer olemas.

Pisut tänasest päevast: Lõunaseks peatuskohaks valis Teet Wroclavis asuva Hydropolise. See on näitus, mis on pühendatud veele. See sobis tänase kuuma ilmaga hästi 🙂 , oli midagi meie Ahaa teaduskeskuse sarnast, palju interaktiivset tegemist ja huvitavaid teaduslikke filme jne. Mõnusalt jahe oli seal ka lisaks kõigele. Ja saime ka Wroclavist päris hea pildi ette, sõitsime pikalt läbi linna. Elanikke on selles ülikoolilinnas umbes 675 tuhat, kellest 130 tuhat on üliõpilased.

A bit about the accommodations: our division of labor with Teet in preparing for the trip was such that he chose the destination, daily routes, and lunch stops/sightseeing spots. I booked the accommodations. I would say that I didn’t delve too deeply this time. We remain fairly undemanding; in addition to a bed, there must be washing facilities and, if possible, breakfast or a nearby store or eatery. So far, everything has worked out nicely, all three accommodations have been very okay, and yesterday’s place even had air conditioning.

A bit about today’s day: for the lunch stop, Teet chose Hydropolis in Wroclaw. It is an exhibition dedicated to water. It suited today’s hot weather well 🙂 , it was something like our Ahaa Science Center, with many interactive activities and interesting scientific films, etc. It was also pleasantly cool in there, on top of everything. And we also got a pretty good impression of Wroclaw, driving through the city for quite a while. This university city has about 675 thousand inhabitants, of whom 130 thousand are students.

Tänase öö siis veedame Dresdenis, majutus suht äärelinnas, seega linna ennast väga palju ei näinud, aga võib-olla homme juhatab Waze meid läbi linna edasi Nürnbergi poole, eks näeb.

Kui eile nautisime õhtusöögiks pizzat ja külma õlut siis täna leidsime lähedalasuva Aasia toidu söögikoha.
Ja tegelikult, kui nii mõelda, siis mida selle palavaga muud ikka paremat teha ongi, kui motikaga mööda kiirteid kihutada 🙂

Tonight we are spending the night in Dresden; the accommodation is relatively on the outskirts, so we didn’t see much of the city itself, but maybe tomorrow Waze will guide us through the city on our way to Nuremberg, we’ll see.

If yesterday we enjoyed pizza and cold beer for dinner, today we found a nearby Asian food place. And actually, when you think about it, what better thing is there to do in this heat than to speed along the highways on a motorcycle 🙂

Täna hommikul ärkasime vara. Juba õhtul ujumast tulles tekkis plaan päeva alustada varahommikuse ujumisega. Jalutasime läbi imekauni männimetsa ja seda mis edasi juhtus võib vaadata piltidelt.

This morning we woke up early. Already in the evening, after coming back from swimming, we made a plan to start the day with an early morning swim. We walked through the beautiful pine forest and what happened next can be seen in the pictures.

Peale värskendavat suplust pakkisime asjad ja asusime teele. Sihtpunktis on meil täna Łódż, aga lõunapausi plaanime teha linnas nimega Łomża.

After a refreshing swim, we packed our things and set off. Our destination today is Łódź, but we plan to have a lunch break in a city called Łomża.

Łomżasse saabumine oli veidi vaevaline. Kiirtee oli just seal mingil põhjusel suletud ja kogu liiklus läks läbi selle 60 tuhande elanikuga linnakese. Kui me ei oleks seda peatust planeerinud oleksime lihtsalt selles linnast ummikut kirudes läbi sõitnud. Õnneks keerasime aga teelt kõrvale ja avastasime palju huvitavat.

Arriving in Łomża was a bit difficult. The highway was closed there for some reason, and all the traffic went through this town of 60,000 inhabitants. If we hadn’t planned this stop, we would have just driven through the town, cursing the traffic jam. Fortunately, we turned off the road and discovered many interesting things.

Tänaste peatuskohtade kontekstis oleks asjakohane rääkida Poola tähest “Ł”. See näeb välja nagu tavaline L-täht ja paljud nii seda ka hääldavad. See on aga suur eksitus. Tegelikult tuleb seda hääldada nagu inglise keelset W-tähte, sarnaselt sõnaga water.

In the context of today’s stops, it would be appropriate to talk about the Polish letter ‘Ł.’ It looks like a regular L and many pronounce it that way. However, this is a big mistake. In fact, it should be pronounced like the English letter W, similar to the word ‘water.’

Meie Łomża visiit lõppes väikese jalutuskäiguga ja einega mõnusas sushi restoranis.

Our visit to Łomża ended with a little walk and a meal in a nice sushi restaurant.

Edasi kulges meie teekond Łódżi. Tegemist on Poola suuruselt neljanda linnaga. Siin meil erilisi plaane ei olnud. Kõik oli väga lihtne – 1. Google mapsi sisestada otsingusõnaks “pizza”, 2. Valida kõrgeima reitinguga koht, mis on mõnusa jalutuskäigu kaugusel ja 3. Hakata astuma.

Meie jalutuskäik viis läbi mitme huvitava koha. Kõigepealt jalutasime läbi surnuaia. Poola surnuaed on väga erinev Eesti omast, aga väga kaunis. Edasi jalutasime läbi kloostrikooli õue ja mööda kirikust kus käis õhtune jumalateenistus. Piilusime seal ukse vahelt sisse, aga ei jäänud pikalt. Pizza ju ootab.

Pizza koht oli esmapilgul veidi kahtlane. Ta asus ühe korrusmaja keldris. Astusime aga julgesti sisse. Selles kohas rääkisid teenindaja ainult Poola keelt. Selles ei olnud aga midagi, meie suudame pizzat ja õlut tellida igas keeles. Pizza oli mõnusal krõbe ja õlu sobis sinna kõrvale ideaalselt.

Our journey continued to Łódź. It is the fourth largest city in Poland. We didn’t have any special plans here. Everything was very simple – 1. Enter “pizza” as the search term in Google Maps, 2. Choose the highest-rated place that is within a pleasant walking distance, and 3. Start walking.

Our walk took us through several interesting places. First, we walked through a cemetery. Polish cemeteries are very different from Estonian ones and it looked very nice. Then we walked through the courtyard of a monastery school and past a church where an evening service was taking place. We peeked in through the door but didn’t stay long. The pizza was waiting.

At first glance, the pizza place looked a bit suspicious. It was located in the basement of an apartment building. However, we stepped in confidently. The staff at this place only spoke Polish. But that was no problem, we can order pizza and beer in any language. The pizza was nicely crispy, and the beer complemented it perfectly.

Lõpuks ometi oleme jälle teel 🙂 Meie viimasest ühisest motomatkast on niiiii palju aega möödas ja me ei suuda isegi meenutada, miks meil nii pikk paus vahele jäi. Covidi aeg on arusaadav, siis tegime ühe pisikese treti Lätti, peale seda olin mina ühe suve Eestis ja järgmisel suvel Taanis mesinduspraktikal, aga mis meid enne Covidit sõita takistas, ei mäletagi… 🙂

Finally, we are on the road again 🙂 So much time has passed since our last motorcycle trip together, and we can’t even remember why we had such a long break. The COVID period is understandable, then we made a short trip to Latvia, after that I was in Denmark for a month-long beekeeping internship, but what stopped us before that, I can’t remember.

Aga see polegi nii oluline enam, oluline on see, et oleme taas koos teel ja naudime seda olemist täiega.. võib-olla ma praegu tiba optimist, alles esimene päev ju :), eks näeb, mis siin kahe nädalaga juhtuma hakkab..

Aga kuhu siis seekord? Reisi sihtkohaks valis Teet Prantsusmaal asuva Parc naturel régional des Volcans d’Auvergne. Lihtsalt meenutuseks, et meie kõige esimene motoreis viis meid samuti Prantsusmaale. Käisin siis just prantsuse keelt õppimas, lihtsalt niisama, mulle see keel lihtsalt niiväga meeldib… ja siis Teet rõõmsalt arvaski, et nüüd võiks Prantsusmaale sõita, ma ju oskan nüüd nendega rääkida :). No hakkama saime, siis küll selliseid toredaid abilisi ei olnud, nagu praegu. Meil oli väike sõnaraamat kaasas ja saime kõik jutud räägitud ja asjad aetud. Tookord me veel reisiblogi ei pidanud, seetõttu meie esimesest reisist Bretanniasse kuskil juttu polegi.

Praeguse reisi jaoks olen Duolingos kohusetundlikut 76 päeva järjest prantsuse keelt meelde tuletanud, päris tore on olnud, usun, et saame seegi kord hakkama :).

Tänasest päevast tegeliklt midagi väga suurt kirjutada polegi, ainult sõitsime, Tallinnast Leetu Veisiejai’sse, Poole piiri lähedal. Kui Eestis ja Lätis oli ennelõunane aeg väga mõnus, Lätis saime tiba vihmagi, siis Leedu tervitas meid 32 kraadiga, kusjuures kuni kella 18ni oli veel 30 kraadi, viimased 150 km oli ikka palav sõita :), teed olid väiksemad ja kiirus madalam. Muidu suure kiirusega sõites tuulutab ikka läbi mõnusalt selle palavaga.

Ööbime täna Verslo ir svetingumo profesinės karjeros centras kooli ühiselamus, millest I korrus on hotelliks tehtud, ilus, puhas, lähedal väike pood, kust saime kõik vajaliku õhtu- ja hommikusöögiks. Ning mis kõige parem, 10 min jalutaskäigu kaugusel imemõnus järveke, see oli küll kirsike tordil tänasele päevale.

But that’s not so important anymore; what matters is that we are on the road together again and enjoying it to the fullest… maybe I’m a bit optimistic right now, it’s only the first evening of the first day :), we’ll see what happens over these two weeks…

So, where to this time? Teet chose the Parc naturel régional des Volcans d’Auvergne in France as our travel destination. Just a reminder, our very first motorcycle trip also took us to France. I went there to learn French, just because I like the language so much… and then Teet had the idea that we could travel to France, since now I could speak with the locals :). We managed well, even though we didn’t have the nice helpers we do now. We had a small dictionary with us and got by with all our conversations and tasks. Back then, we didn’t keep a travel blog, so there’s no record of our first trip to Brittany.

For this trip, I’ve been diligently refreshing my French on Duolingo for 76 consecutive days, it’s been quite fun, and I believe we’ll manage just fine this time too :).

There’s not much to write about today, we just drove from Tallinn to Veisiejai in Lithuania, near the Polish border. While the morning in Estonia and Latvia was very pleasant, and we got a bit of rain in Latvia, Lithuania welcomed us with 32 degrees Celsius, and it was still 30 degrees until 6 PM, making the last 150 km quite hot to ride :).

We are staying in the dormitory of the Verslo ir svetingumo profesinės karjeros centras school, the first floor of which has been converted into a hotel. It’s nice, clean, and there’s a small shop nearby where we got everything we needed for dinner and breakfast. And the best part, there’s a lovely little lake just a 10-minute walk away, which was the cherry on top for today’s journey.
